Windows Automatic Repair Loop (Fix It Now)

Updated Feb 13, 2026

⚠️ Immediate Fix

Stuck on "Preparing Automatic Repair" loop? Detailed repair rarely works. You must force the PC to safe mode or command prompt. Interrupt the boot 3 times by holding the power button. Once in the Blue Menu (WinRE), choose Troubleshoot > Advanced > Command Prompt and run `chkdsk /f /r c:` to repair the disk corruptions.

Why This Happens

  • Corrupt MBR: Master Boot Record is damaged.
  • Bad Shutdown: Power loss during write.
  • Failed Update: Windows Update broke the bootloader.

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Enter WinRE: Turn PC on. As soon as logo appears, hold Power to kill it. Repeat 3 times. The 4th time, it will enter "Automatic Repair" recovery menu.
  2. Command Prompt: Select Advanced Options > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.
  3. Fix Boot Files: Type `bootrec /fixmbr` and press Enter. Then type `bootrec /rebuildbcd` and press Enter.
  4. System Restore: If that fails, go back to Advanced Options and choose System Restore. Pick a date before the loop started.

When to Stop

If the hard drive makes clicking noises or the BIOS says "No Boot Device", your SSD/HDD has physically failed. No command will fix a dead drive. You need to replace the drive and reinstall Windows.
