The Problem: Your PC takes forever to boot, chrome tabs lag, and everything feels heavy.

The Short Answer: You don't need to buy a new PC. 90% of the time, slowness is caused by too many "Startup Apps" launching silently in the background when you turn on your computer.

Method 1: Disable Startup Apps

This is the single most effective thing you can do.

IMPORTANT NOTE Do not disable things like "Realtek Audio" or "Windows Defender". Only disable apps you recognize, like Spotify, Steam, Skype, or Cortana.
  1. Right-click the taskbar (empty space) and select Task Manager.
  2. Click the Startup tab.
  3. Look at the "Startup impact" column.
  4. Right-click any "High" impact app you don't need and select Disable.
  5. Restart your PC.

Method 2: Change Power Plan

Windows often defaults to "Balanced" or "Power Saver", which throttles your CPU speed.

  1. Type "Power plan" in the Start menu search bar.
  2. Click Edit power plan.
  3. Click Power Options in the top address bar.
  4. Select High Performance.

Method 3: Turn off Transparency

Transparency looks nice but eats up GPU resources.

PRO TIP This is especially helpful on older laptops with integrated graphics. It makes the windows solid color, which is much faster to render.
  • Go to Settings > Personalization > Colors.
  • Turn Transparency effects OFF.

Still Not Fixed?

If you have an HDD (spinning hard drive), upgrading to an SSD is the only hardware change that will make a massive difference.
